RE: Best vehicle

The best "sellers" are Jeeps and Honda CRV. They are not the best cars, just great toads.

RE: XP + Vista + Quicken transfer

I have the Dell vista on the lap top and xp at home. The thumb drive works great. I just restore the backup from one computer to the other. Never an issue.

RE: Starting out

There are also several books on full-timing in an RV. They may give you some info.
Most fulltimers are either in a BIG 5th, wheel or a BIG Diesel Pusher. I started with a Southwind 32 with one slide. Too small - now have a 40' with 4 slides; what a difference. Good luck and enjoy the search.

RE: new moterhome repairs

Depends on what they were. At the PDI, most new motorhomes have between 15-30 things that need to be fixed. The PDI, (pre-delivery inspection) acts as an inspection point. The Motor Home is a traveling earthquake and things will come loose or need adjustment. Most things are fixed in the first year or two. If there are no major issues, it would still be worth looking at. Good luck.

I once towed a small car. I had trouble getting into and out of gas station.
I've never seen one towed, but have seen one on a trailer.

RE: 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Dont know about the o7, I had a 99 and towed it. I still have the base plate. If it will fit your you can have it for shipping costs from Californis.
There were two issue with it.
1- It regestered the miles when towed if I did not unscrew the cable.
2- At several gas station with steep inclines I lifted the front end off the ground. When the front tires came down they were not in allignment with the rig so I had to manually adjust.
Other than that is was good. I sold it and got a jeep.
Frank (chiefguyton@aol.com) if you want any more info.

RE: Considering trading the fiver for a class A

Figure out what you want and buy one level up. I started with Monaco, Tiffin and Winni for their after service support. Ended up with a Monaco Camelot. A diplomat would have worked but this way I will not be itching to move up in a few years. Demartini's in Grass Valley had the best deal. Email for more info if you like. Chiefguyton@aol.com

RE: Don't Make the Mistake I Did, Read Your Insurance Policy

I email GMAC and asked them about my coverage. They said each state can be different. Calif is fully paid. Email below.
Dear Mr. Guyton:
Thank you for your email.
There are differences on towing coverage dependent on the state your policy is in and the type of vehicle being covered. RV's do have unlimited towing, but in the state of California, all vehicles carrying towing coverage have unlimited towing.
It is stated in your policy under Optional Coverages as follows:
TOWING AND LABOR COSTS COVERAGE:
All policy provisions regarding Towing and Labor Costs Coverage are replaced by the following:
If your Declarations page indicates that Towing and Labor Costs Coverage is afforded by showing a premium for that coverage, we will pay the fair cost you incur for “your covered auto” or any “non-owned auto” for:
1. mechanical labor up to one hour at the place of its breakdown;
2. towing to the nearest place where the necessary repairs can be made during regular business hours if it will not run;
3. towing it out if it is stuck on or immediately next to a public highway;
4. delivery of gas, oil, loaned battery, or change of tire
WE DO NOT PAY FOR THE COST OF THESE ITEMS
Without knowing the specifics of the policy that the person who posted the message has, we cannot determine the reason theirs was covered differently.
I hope this helps with your concerns. However, if you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-325-1190 or email us at service@gmacinsurance.com. Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 9:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm Central.
Sincerely,
Helen Kean, agent

RE: Don't Make the Mistake I Did, Read Your Insurance Policy

Make sure you read the fine print in Coach-net
For exampe, if you loose a wheel because you did not maintain the wheel beerings they can deny payment for the tow. I had Coach Net for a year. You can search my postings for futrher info. When they asked me to renew I asked them again about their towing policy and they said "its not covered if the disability is caused by a maintenance idem you did not maintain". So I did not renew.

RE: Tacoma PU with Harley in Bed as a toad?

Thanks to all. The information was very helpfull. My next big trip is not until January. With all the stock market issues I think I will wait a month or tow and see if Toyota comes out with a better rebate. I'll buy the Tacoma automatic 2 wheel drive with the driveline disconnect. Sounds like all of you really enjoy your tacomas. Safe travels. Frank

RE: Coach-net service plans

My information came from Coach-Net when I called them. My New DP ISL 400 somehow got air in the line and would not purge. This was on a Friday night. They said they could send someone out but I would have to pay the overtime portion. Also, that if the air in the line issue was caused by my failure to do any required maintenance issues Coach-net would not pay the tow bill or the service call bill. I was in a parking spot that a tow wasnot an option. Not sure how air got in the line. Monday morning, Rocky Mountain Cummins from Phoenix arrived at my Mesa Az site. The tec spent over two hours working on the engine and got it running. He could not figure out how air got in the line. No charge from them. Not sure if Cummins paid them.
I was under the impression that coach-net would pay the tow bill or for the service call. Did not know about the fine print.
The policy came with my new Monaco. When the year was up, Coachnet call and asked if I wanted to renew. I again told them about my experience and they said the information I got was correct. I did not renew.
